What Germany does in Zambia
Zambia has been for many years one of the most important partners of German Development Cooperation. In 2014, Germany and Zambia celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
There are many stakeholders active in Zambia. In addition to the German Embassy several other German organisations operate in the country, among them the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ), the “Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau” (KFW), the “Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe” and the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.
German experts and volunteers support the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Zambian Association of Chambers for Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) and other organisations.
All German organisations are united in one goal: to support the Zambian government in its fight against poverty and in the further strengthening of the rule of law, and human rights. Focal areas of cooperation are water and sanitation, good governance and energy.
These German focal areas were identified in close consultation with the Zambian Government - last during the Government-to-Government negotiations in November 2022.
