Germany actively supports the sport sector development in Zambia and is proud to contribute to various long- and short-term initiatives. Focussing not only on the cooperation with professional and amateur associations, but also on individual and grass-root level support, the Germany Embassy is proud of the achievements in cooperation with Zambian and German partners.

Vocational Training / Academic Exchange in Germany

One of the most important long-term measures undertaken as part of the cultural and educational policy of the German Federal Foreign Office, was the set-up of an academic sports cooperation with German universities targeting students from developing countries.

In recent years, students selected for scholarships have e.g. enrolled in post-graduate programmes for coaches and physical education teachers (duration of five months in four alternating specializations (football, athletics, sports for disabled, conditioning) at the University of Leipzig. Track and Field diploma courses are offered at the University of Mainz with further programmes available at the University of Cologne and in Bad Hennef (in association with the German Football Association).

The Foreign Federal Office is proud to enable motivated and committed coaches and athletes to participate in training courses which are highly acknowledged and recognized by sports experts around the world.

Sport Equipment Donations

The German Embassy regularly donates sports equipment to various committees (National Olympic Committee (NOK) and Paralympic Committee of Zambia), but also to grass-root sport clubs and sport academies in urban and rural areas. Especially the latter face the challenge of coping and organizing training and games for a large number of children and youth eager to participate without being sufficiently equipped with balls, nets, jerseys, etc.
